Founded in June, 2013, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Center for Polar and Deep Ocean Development (SJTU - Center for Polar and Deep Ocean Development) is based on the research platforms of relevant marine departments and superiority subjects of SJTU. SJTU - Center for Polar and Deep Ocean Development is characterized by the research of issues related to polar and deep ocean, and strives to build an institute for comprehensive academic research and policy advisory agency, which is the multidisciplinary combination of oceanic humanities research, technology and management of shipping, marine engineering and technology, etc..

Based on the subjects of ship design, marine and engineering, etc., SJTU - Center for Polar and Deep Ocean Development promotes all-round development of disciplines related to marine science and technology, works on the platform construction. The platform contains ocean shipping and marine industry, marine security and international relations, marine science and technology history and culture, marine resources development and environmental protection, etc..
