Dr. Guifang (Julia)Xue served as the Director for the Law of the Sea Institute, Ocean University of China (OUC) during March 2005-May 2013. In OUC, she also chaired the Department of International Law, School of Law and Political Science. Since June 2013, she has been appointed as Chair Professor of KoGuan Law School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University where she also holds the position as the Executive Director of the Center for Polar and Deep Ocean Development.Currently,she is the director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Center for Polar and Deep Ocean Development and the executive dircetor of Shanghai University Think-Tank "Research Base on National Marine Rights and Strategy" and Shanghai Social Science Innovation Research Base "Research Base on National Marine Rights and Strategy".
She has research interests in the areas of ocean law and policy, particularly issues relating to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), state practice on ocean law and policy, conservation of marine living resources, protection of marine environment, and maritime dispute settlement. She has researched and published widely in these areas, also involves actively in academic activities home and abroad.
