Aurélie Hamaide, Senior French Reviser of Translation at the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), visited the CCAMLR Secretariat on Tuesday 17/5/2016 to compare notes with the CCAMLR language services group. Aurélie was in Australia to deliver a guest lecture to translation students at Monash University on 19 May.
The Data Manager, David Ramm, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, welcomed Aurélie to the Secretariat, gave a general introduction to CCAMLR, introduced her to staff and showed her around the Secretariat's meeting and interpreting facilities.
CCAMLR's translation teams met with Aurélie to discuss common interests and issues, work practices and the use of Computer Aided Translation tools by each Secretariat. The teams appreciated very much the opportunity to gain an insight into the work of another similar organisation, given by such a widely experienced and dedicated practitioner. Aurélie's specialisation in revision and translation quality assurance was of particular interest.
Aurélie’s visit highlighted similarities between the work of CCAMLR and that of the SPC, especially in the field of fisheries and communication, and the two organisations might benefit from closer ties and sharing some scientific and linguistic resources.
