UNCLOS at 40: Theoretical Development and State Practice
20-21 April 2022| Hybrid of Physical and Online Platform
The Center for Rule of Ocean Law Studies and Center for Polar and Deep Ocean Development of Shanghai Jiao Tong University will convene a hybrid workshop to take place on 20-21 April 2022 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the conclusion of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). A limited number of in-person live presentations in Shanghai, China, and more online presentations. The overarching theme of the symposium will be to present/evaluate the achievements, development, and prospects for the past 40 years of the UNCLOS. The symposium will cover focused sessions:
•Rethinking regimes under the UNCLOS
•New Knowledge and Changing Circumstances in the Law of the Sea
•Interaction of Science and Law in Ocean Governance
•State practice for the implementation of the UNCLOS
Abstracts of no more than 300 words are expected to be submitted by 19 January 2022 to: oceanlaw@sjtu.edu.cn. Abstracts from early career researchers and academics from the field of the law of the sea are particularly encouraged.
The shortlisted applicants will be notified by 19 February 2022. The selected papers will be presented at the symposium, and further develop into papers to be published with the peer review process as a thematic collection in a special issue of a selected Journal or a book chapter of a compilation book. Draft papers will be submitted by 19 April 2022 and full papers will be due by 19 May 2022.
